What is child counselling?
Endeavour has psychologists who are trained in child psychology. The counselling of your child, or a child in your care, requires a unique relationship to be established between the child and the therapist. Age appropriate communication skills and techniques allow for the psychologist to deal with very young children through to adolescents.
Is therapy for children the same as for adults?
Younger children may be counselled during play, providing a bridge between verbal and physical expression. Teenagers may attend a similar session to an adult. Parents may or may not be present during counselling depending on the method.
Why does my child need counselling?
Children can suffer from many of the same psychological problems and symptoms as adults, although it may be expressed differently. Anxiety, depression and self-confidence issues are all common in children, unfortunately.
A psychologist can help a child deal with many issues including:
- Abuse (sexual, physical, emotional)
- Parental separation and other parenting issues
- Separation anxiety
- Understanding boundaries
- Bullying and other school-related problems
