Depression Counselling

What Is Depression?

Depression is an intense feeling of sadness, moodiness or feeling low about oneself. While in everyday life these feelings are quite common, depression is diagnosed when these feelings are prolonged for weeks, months or years at a time. When dealing with depression you may feel empty, negative about life or have bursts of crying which you just can’t get out of. Depression can come on suddenly and without any apparent reason but is a very serious condition as it can become a repetitive cycle. If left untreated it can result in suicidal tendencies.

Getting Help For Depression

Depression is a very serious disorder which needs to be addressed immediately. By ignoring the signs and symptoms of depression it can lead you or someone you know in a downward spiral which can be hard to come out of. Depression is quite common with 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men being diagnosed in Australia each year.
If you feel you or someone you know may be depressed it’s best to seek professional help from a trained psychologist. While your doctor may be able to prescribe medication as a part of the treatment process, it doesn’t solve the underlying issues which may be contributing to your depression. By allowing your health care professionals to create a combined plan, you have a better chance of overcoming your depression in the future.
